RAGE Members Reveal Details Of LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA Album

On Friday, August 2, LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA will release its new album titled "LMO".

During the past month, the three RAGE musicians — Victor Smolski (guitar), Peavy Wagner (vocals and bass) and André Hilgers (drums) — worked at full stretch to finish their opulent orchestral project that can be considered a continuation of 1996´s "Lingua Mortis" album, back then a true piece of pioneering work.

The entire album was composed by Victor Smolski, who cooperated with two orchestras from Spain and Russia, enlarging the number of this mammoth project´s participants to more than 100. Together with longtime co-producer Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL), Victor Smolski produced and mixed the record in Twilight Hall Studio in Krefeld, Germany. The final mastering will be done within the next days.

"LMO" follows an exciting concept on the burning of witches in Gelnhausen in 1599, written by vocalist Peavy Wagner and based on a true story. Apart from the three RAGE musicians, two female vocalists belong to LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA´s regular cast: Jeannette Marchewka and soprano singer Dana Harnge. Guest vocals were contributed by Henning Basse (ex-METALLIUM), among others.

"LMO" track listing:

01. Cleansed By Fire
a) Convert The Pagans Pt. 1
b) The Inquisition (instrumental)
c) Convert The Pagans Pt. 2
02. Scapegoat
03. The Devil´s Bride
04. Lament
05. Oremus (instrumental)
06. Witches´ Judge
07. Eye For An Eye
08. Afterglow

The cover artwork was created by Felipe Machado Franco who´s also been responsible for the latest RAGE artwork, "21". The band photos were shot by Pia Kintrup.

This past Saturday, May 4, a rough mix of "LMO" was presented to a group of international journalists. Journalist Martin Stark of Germany´s Rock It magazine describes the record as an "opulent metal opera, more orchestral than anything else, partly heavier than RAGE and melodic beyond my wildest dreams from end to end." Guitar editor Nico Ernst states: "Never before has the combination of band and orchestra worked that well." Metal.de writer Florian Schörg takes the thought further and judges: "The perfect symbiosis of two worlds sparkles with both fantastic melodies and heaviness. The gigantic spectrum of emotions can be considered the cream topping on this extraordinarily delicious sound cocktail."

CHILDREN OF BODOM: Second Part Of ´Halo Of Blood´ Track-By-Track Breakdown

The second in a series of video clips featuring a track-by-track breakdown of "Halo Of Blood", the eighth album from Finnish metallers Children Of Bodom, can be seen below.

"Halo Of Blood" will be released on June 11 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The cover art was created by Sami Saramäki, who was responsible for the artwork on previous Children Of Bodom albums "Follow The Reaper", "Are You Dead Yet?" and "Hate Crew Deathroll".

Pre-order the CD (including the bonus track and digital booklet) now and get the single "Transference" instantly.

Comments Children Of Bodom guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho: "´Transference´ is a straight-up Children Of Bodom to-the-core-type song and therefore was a good pick for a video and obviously is one of our favorite tracks. It always had an evil vibe to it, which I wish I knew how to explain because it still gives me chills… Enjoy!"

Children Of Bodom´s new CD was recorded at Danger Johnny Studios in Helsinki. For the recording of the LP, Children Of Bodom has teamed up with recording engineer Mikko Karmila, who worked with the band on their fan-favorite albums "Hatebreeder", "Follow The Reaper" and "Hate Crew Deathroll", as well as Swedish producer Peter Tägtgren (MARDUK, Amon Amarth), who oversaw production of both vocals and keyboards on the record. The album was mixed at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki.

Commented Laiho: "´Halo Of Blood´ is the eighth studio album from Children Of Bodom, and believe it or not, but we still managed to keep it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB sound recognizable. It´s got the fastest and the slowest song we ever made and lyrics wise there are themes we had never had before. It´s 10 new songs of pure Nordic metal and whether you enjoy it with a beer or a glass of water, I´m sure you will have a good time."

"Halo Of Blood" track listing:

01. Waste Of Skin
02. Halo Of Blood
03. Scream For Silence
04. Transference
05. Bodom Blue Moon (The Second Coming)
06. The Days Are Numbered
07. Dead Man´s Hand On You
08. Damage Beyond Repair
09. All Twisted
10. One Bottle And A Knee Deep

SIRENIA: First ´Perils Of The Deep Blue´ Trailer Released

Norwegian/Spanish symphonic gothic metallers Sirenia will release their sixth studio album, "Perils Of The Deep Blue", on June 28 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Comments SIRENIA vocalist and guitarist Morten Veland: "The entire band and all the people we are working with are absolutely ecstatic about it! This album takes Sirenia to the next level and brings many new sides of us to the table. There´s typical tried-and-tested Sirenia stuff but also approaches that you´ve never heard from us before. I think I´ve never felt so good about an album throughout my entire career. I mean, I love them all, but this one is something special. It´s the result of two and a half years of blood, sweat and tears. I´ve literally put my heart and soul into this record, so I am very curious to see what our fans as well as the press will think about it!"

"Perils Of The Deep Blue" was produced by the Sirenia mastermind himself, while the mixing and mastering was handled by Endre Kirkesola at Dub Studios in Oslo.

"The writing process has been going on for about two years," states Veland. "I always have ideas for new stuff, so I started writing even before we had released our previous album, ´The Enigma Of Life´. Most of it has been recorded in my own studio. I love to work there as I always feel inspired — plus we can take our time with whatever we do, for there is no time pressure. Just like for all of our previous albums, we also dropped by Sound Suite Studios in France — a great place that feels like home, too. This time we recorded the Marseille choir there that one can always hear on our records, as well as some of my acoustic guitar parts."

The album artwork was originally painted by Anne Stokes — though it wasn´t intentionally created to be used as such, as Morten explains: "came across the artwork on the Internet and immediately fell in love with it for obvious reasons — it´s no secret that I´ve always been fascinated by Greek mythology and sirens. So we got in touch with Anne and luckily she granted us the permits to use it for the record. I actually drew the inspiration for the album title, ´Perils Of The Deep Blue´, from the artwork. In my opinion, it´s the perfect Sirenia cover — there was no way we could have let that opportunity slip away!"

"Perils Of The Deep Blue" track listing:

01. Ducere Me In Lucem
02. Seven Widows Weep
03. My Destiny Coming To Pass
04. Ditt Endelikt
05. Cold Caress
06. Darkling
07. Decadence
08. Stille Kom Døden
09. The Funeral March
10. Profound Scars
11. A Blizzard Is Storming

Limited-edition-digipak bonus tracks:

12. Chains
13. Blue Colleen

Sirenia´s last album, "The Enigma Of Life", was released on January 21, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.

In 2008, Sirenia recruited singer Ailyn (born: Pilar Giménez García) as the replacement for Monika Pedersen, who left the group a year earlier after only one album due to "musical differences."

Ailyn was best known as a former contestant on the Spanish version of "The X Factor", the biggest television talent competition in Europe.

SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away at about 11 a.m. today (Thursday, May 2) near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Hanneman — who in January 2011 contracted necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing surgeries, skin grafts and intense rehab since — spoke to U.K.´s Classic Rock magazine in December 2011 about his recovery which has seen him sit out an entire two years´ worth of touring with the band.

Hanneman was kicking back in a hot tub with a couple of beers when noticed a spider bite him on the arm.

"Didn´t even feel it," he said. "But an hour later, I knew that I was ill." On his way to the hospital, "I could see the flesh corrupting," he recalled. "The arm was real hot. I got to the emergency room, and thank god the nurse knew straight away what it was. By chance, although it´s pretty rare, she had seen a case a little while before. At that point, I was an hour away from death."

Although the spider bite itself was not serious, it had caused bacterial infection in the deeper layers of the skin and tissues of the arm.

"Unbelievably, the doctor was a SLAYER fan," said Hanneman, "First thing he said to me was: ´First I am going to save your life. Then I am going to save your arm. Then I am going to save your career.´"

Hanneman underwent emergency surgery to remove the dead and dying tissue. The doctor was able to save the muscles and the tendons, but the guitarist had a large open wound on his arm. He spent the next two months in hospital, having extensive skin grafts and heavy doses of antibiotics to suppress the infection.

"I had to learn to walk again," Hanneman said: "I hadn´t stood up for a month, apart from anything else. The skin grafts were very painful and all the muscles and tendons in the arm where very weak. That was ok though. I count myself lucky that the nurse and doctor knew right away what had happened to me, because things could have been a whole lot worse."

At the April 2011 "Big Four" concert in Indio, California, Hanneman joined SLAYER onstage for a two-song encore, but he hasn´t yet been able to tour again.

In a March 1, 2013 interview with MetalObsession.net´s Nick Tevelis, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King stated about Jeff Hanneman´s health status: "I don´t have an update. I haven´t seen Jeff in forever. He´s always been a recluse, and he´s even been more of a recluse since he´s mot going on tour with us. But our manager talks to him from time to time and sees him in L.A. just randomly. But I´m far from L.A., so I´m not in that loop. But I guess he´s just getting better. It´s just one of those things where he can do anything in life. He could be hanging here having a good time with us. He can probably play ´South Of Heaven´, but he´s not gonna be playing ´Jihad´, you know what I mean?! So it´s just a muscle memory kind of thing, I guess, at this point."

Asked whether Jeff had been involved in the songwriting process for the new SLAYER album, Kerry said: "It´s just all my stuff for now. But I did that just in case, ´cause I don´t know what Jeff´s intentions are. So I wanted to have SLAYER covered in case he doesn´t come to the party. If he comes to the party, then we´ve got tons of songs."

Regarding whether contingencies had been made in case Jeff doesn´t make it back to SLAYER in the near future, Kerry said: "I think Gary [Holt, EXODUS guitarist who has been filling in for Jeff for the past couple of years] is in for the long haul. I haven´t really discussed it with him. But he keeps his schedule free when he knows we´re on tour. And I´m pretty sure, if Jeff all of a sudden came back in June, we would probably pay Gary for freeing up his time. I don´t wanna treat somebody that´s bailed us out for two years badly. But if Gary played with us forever? I´m OK with that. But if Jeff got better and said, ´Hey, man, I´m ready to play,´ and he came to rehearsal and showed us he was good enough, that´s his show."

MY DYING BRIDE: ´The Manuscript´ Audio Samples Available

U.K. doom metal veterans MY DYING BRIDE will release a new EP, "The Manuscript", on May 13 via Peaceville Records on CD and vinyl.

Check out audio samples in the YouTube clip below.

"The Manuscript" contains four new and exclusive songs; a dark voyage spanning over 27 minutes of supreme doom in the unmistakable MY DYING BRIDE style of heaviness mixed with dark tales of foreboding. It was recorded and mixed at Futureworks Studios in Manchester, U.K. with the band´s long-time producer, Rob "Mags" Magoolagan.

Comments the band: "´The Manuscript´ features four monstrous tracks of brilliantly crafted metal that only MY DYING BRIDE can do, with swathes of doom laden melancholy, harmonic beauty and thundering death metal all combined in their trademark sound. Four tales of tragedy, loss and bitter vengeance greet the listener with an added assault on the emotions too, leaving the soul grey and limp. There is beauty here, but it´s carrying a dark blade."

In a recent interview with Metal Forces, MY DYING BRIDE vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe stated about the songs that will appear on "The Manuscript": "They´re very similar to ´A Map Of All Our Failures´, because they were written and recorded at the same time, except for one song. That really stands out… [laughs] It´s full-on sort of epic death metal; it´s swords and axes, a proper warrior battle kind of track that´s almost medieval in flavor. You can almost picture the scene; it´s set in a snowy kind of mountainous landscape. There are sound effects and all sorts of mayhem going on in it, and death metal vocals not quite all the way through it, but near enough. It even has a Swedish title which because my Swedish isn´t great, I´m not gonna repeat here. [laughs] I need to get the pronunciation right before I do that."

MY DYING BRIDE´s latest album, "A Map Of All Our Failures", was released on October 15, 2012 in Europe and October 16, 2012 in the U.S. via Peaceville Records on CD, double vinyl and special-edition CD+DVD.

AMORPHIS: ´Circle´ Album Audio Snippets, Track-By-Track Commentary

"Circle", the eleventh album from Finnish melancholic dark metal forerunners AMORPHIS will be released on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. Production and mixing duties for the follow-up to 2011´s "The Beginning Of Times" were handled by HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren, who has previously worked with such bands as CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, Immortal and Dimmu Borgir. The recordings took place at Petrax Studio (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) in Hollola and 5K Studios in Helsinki. The cover artwork was created by Tom Bates (BLEED FROM WITHIN, DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL) and can be seen below.

A six-minute video clip containing snippets of all songs on the album, as well as a track-by-track commentary by guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen, can be seen below.

Commented AMORPHIS vocalist Tomi Joutsen: "The mystic, androgynous person on the cover represents a spiritual guide. This character was sent from another time and place to help the album´s protagonist find a new path for his life."

"Circle" track listing:

01. Shades Of Gray
02. Mission
03. The Wanderer
04. Narrow Path
05. Hopeless Days
06. Nightbird´s Song
07. Into The Abyss
08. Enchanted By The Moon
09. A New Day
10. Dead Man´s Dream (bonus track)

The album´s limited digibook version will come with a bonus DVD containing the following:

* The Making Of "Circle"
* Nightbird´s Song (video clip)

Apart from the CD+DVD digibook version, "Circle" will be available on CD (without the bonus track), black 2LP in gatefold, brown 2LP in gatefold and as a bulging limited box, including three bonus tracks and a wristband — exclusively via the Nuclear Blast mail order.

A short summary about the album´s concept/story that spreads throught out the lyrics by Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for most recent AMORPHIS albums: "The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival."

Joutsen added about the album title: "´Circle´ represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men´s circle."

Regarding the direction of the new AMORPHIS material, the band´s guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen said: "While promoting ´The Beginning Of Times´, we started to feel that we were giving the same explanations over and over again when people asked about the studio process and how the songs came about. Even though the music was very strong, the making process didn´t offer any surprises and appeared to be quite secured. Now the addition of a new dimension to the developing process has inspired us to focus on our material even more. The songs are extremely strong, bombastic and skull-pummelling."

"The Beginning Of Times" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 16 — the best chart position ever scored by an AMORPHIS album in that country. The CD also landed at position No. 1 on the Finnish chart.

Since that album´s touring cycle ended late last year, the band has kept busy, with guitarist Chris Letchford launching his own signature series Strandberg guitar and bassist Mark Michell releasing an instructional book.

SCALE THE SUMMIT´s third album, "The Collective", sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 39 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
